The Greene County Rams are looking for a win after losing four straight baseball games this week, two of them by the 10-run rule.
The Rams fell 16-6 to HOIAC foe Gilbert in Gilbert Wednesday. The Rams scored one run in the top of the first inning, but the Tigers answered with nine runs, including three on a homer by Evan Johnson. The Tigers scored 16 runs in the first three innings.
Senior Wes Tipton was starting pitcher. He threw only the first two-thirds of the first inning, giving up nine runs, seven of them earned. Sophomore Tyler Beger pitched the rest of the game; the seven runs scored against him were all earned runs.
While the Tigers had 13 hits, the Rams mustered four. Jordan Hostetler had a double and two of the Rams’ RBI. Dylan McConnell had a single and two RBI. Alex Rasmussen drove in a run, and Colton Fitzpatrick and Riah Nelsen each had singles.
The Greene County Rams lost their fourth straight baseball game in a non-conference batting fest against Carroll High June 12 in Jefferson. Final score was 23-11 in favor of the Carroll Tigers. The game was called after six innings via the 10-run rule.
Carroll scored six runs in the first inning, although the score at the end of the second inning was 7-6, with Carroll in the lead. The score after five innings was 15-11, but the Tigers scored eight runs in the sixth inning to end the game.
Four pitchers threw for the Rams. JC Weitl started the game and he took the loss.
Daric Whipple hit three singles. Rasmussen doubled and singled and got three RBI. Weitl and two singles for one RBI and Fitzpatrick had a single and two RBI. Riah Nelsen had a single and one RBI and McConnnell added a single.
The Rams stand at 3-5 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and 3-7 overall.
